ARE ALTERA ALPACA SOCKS REALLY MADE IN USA?

Absolutely! We feel very strongly in keeping all aspects of our manufacturing in the US. We buy alpaca fiber from small farms across the nation to use in our sock production. We know that doing business in the US is not only a good policy, it is good for the community.

WHAT MAKES ALTERA ALPACA SOCKS SO GOOD?

All of our socks incorporate arch support, full terry loop sole, re-enforced toe and heal. We add Silver Infusion nylon to keep your feet from smelling bad. Our socks are knitted on small needle, fine gauge knitting machines and we design and manufacture our own blended yarns for each sock we make. It starts by selecting the best possible Alpaca fiber. All our yarns are made in the USA. We use other type of yarns to reinforce the reinforce the outside and inside of the sock with nylon and lycra for added comfort, durability and fit.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ALPACA?

Alpaca is free of lanolin and thus can be processed without the need for high temperatures or harsh chemicals.

Alpaca is also non absorbent to oils, meaning that the oils do not penetrate the fibers, but merely cling to the fiber for easy cleaning without harsh chemicals

Alpaca is water resistant to external water penetrations like wool, but can slowly wick away perspiration because of it unique ability to act like cotton in moisture regain. These factors are what make alpaca feel lighter than wool, but warmer then cotton in cool and damp conditions.

Alpaca fibers have a unique hollow core which provides superior wicking.

Alpaca is a natural renewable fiber with a wide range of applications.

Alpaca fiber is flame resistant, meeting the standards of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s.

WHY DO MY SOCKS WEAR OUT IN THE SAME PLACE?

Everyone’s feet are different, but generally speaking, if a person has pressure point spots it’s more likely that a sock could wear out there.

ARE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SIZING DIFFERENT? ARE MEN'S WIDER?

Generally, as a foot gets longer it gets wider. To compensate for that increase in width, we knit the socks with a bit more cross stretch, roomier if you will, to compensate for that increase in width.

DO I NEED LINERS WITH ALTERA ALPACA SOCKS?

No. Long ago people used them to compensate for socks that fit poorly and not breathing properly, but ALTERA Alpaca socks make liners obsolete!

WHERE DO YOU GET THE ALPACA FIBER?

Part of the Altera Alpaca formula is that we use only the best alpaca fiber available. With standards so high, we work with select partners to obtain premium alpaca fiber from North America, and if need in South America.

IS THE ALPACA FIBER THAT YOU USE TO MAKE YOUR SOCKS SOURCED FROM FARMS THAT TREAT THEIR ANIMALS ETHICALLY AND HUMANELY?

Our partners do not harm their alpacas in the shearing process in any way. It’s a natural, sustainable process.
